Milestone clients are minority entrepreneurs who possess the passion, skills, and courage to pursue the American dream. Milestone prides itself in helping fill the gap that is present in the minority community. This particular community is an underserved market; they are overlooked by banks because of the higher risk, and ignored by traditional venture capital because they need smaller amounts of financing.

Milestone is the only Minnesota-based Small Business Investment Company (SBIC) that provides smaller amounts of long-term, high-risk, equity type financing and management assistance to minority entrepreneurs. We seek and consider minority business owners.

As a Minnesota SBIC, our focus is on Minnesota minority businesses. We require the following from minority businesses that we consider for financing:

• A management team that is experienced knows its strengths and weaknesses
• Established business with a well-defined plan and focus on a defined market
• Openness to listen and act on suggestions
• Willingness to share upside potential with investors
• Willingness to consider investors' advice
• Ability to accept funding alternatives such as subordinated debt, preferred stock, or debt with equity
