Esperanza Guerrero-Anderson, Milestone Founder, Speaks to St. Paul Rotary Club on November 4 MINNEAPOLIS - (October 28, 2003) - Milestone Growth Fund Founder Esperanza Guerrero-Anderson spoke to the St. Paul Rotary Club on November 4, 2003, at the St. Paul Radisson Riverfront Hotel. This Rotary Meeting honored families and businesses selected by the Family Celebration Group [a group consisting of Chicanos Latinos Unidos En Servicio (CLUES) as well as five other agencies] as award winners. Gerrero-Anderson was selected as keynote speaker because of her strong business ties to minority communities. In her speech entitled, A Small Fish in a Big Pond: The Milestone Growth Fund Story and the Passionate Immigrant Woman Who Made it Possible , she told her story of coming to Minnesota from Nicaragua to start a new life and the accomplishments she has achieved. Her story fittingly describes how a "ripple effect" begins with each entrepreneur receiving Milestone financing and management assistance. The result is growth of minority businesses, more jobs, improved local economies, solutions to social problems, and inspiration that pursuing the American dream is possible. Milestone Growth Fund is the only Minnesota venture capital fund that is focused on providing equity-type financing to minority-owned companies. Since 1990, Milestone has helped 59 such companies with investments totaling more than $19 million. In addition to capital, the company provides management services such as consulting on building a board to strategic planning and access to information sources and experts. Licensed by the U.S. Small Business Administration, Milestone Growth Fund has clients that include such business success stories as Creative Kidstuff, ION Corporation, iXmatch, Latino Communications Network and SuperSolutions.
